Edgware to Spain

Removals from Edgware to Spain

The drive is long and entirely predictable. What is not predictable is the building at the other end — so this page starts there, with the four questions that decide how a Spanish delivery actually runs.

Four questions about the far end

Asked at the survey, all four are easy. Asked on the day, any of them can cost you the afternoon.

  1. 01

Can the vehicle get to the building?

Coastal urbanisations and city streets both restrict large vehicles, and a great many Spanish blocks have an underground car park with a height bar that a removals lorry will simply not pass. Where that is the case, the delivery runs as a shuttle with a smaller van from a legal holding point — which is an ordinary arrangement, not a failure, provided it was established at the survey.

  2. 02

    Does the lift take furniture?

Spanish lifts are frequently smaller than the British equivalent, and a sofa that came down an Edgware staircase does not automatically go up one in Valencia. Lift dimensions and stair widths are recorded at the survey so the answer is known while there is still time to do something about it.

  3. 03

    Is anybody there with keys?

Completion abroad slips constantly. If the date is not firm, the load waits in storage here rather than arriving at a building nobody can open. That is a far cheaper outcome than a vehicle and crew standing outside for a day.

  4. 04

    Where does it actually go?

Into the rooms, not onto a driveway. Beds rebuilt, wardrobes put back together, packing materials taken away. The standard at the Spanish end is the standard at the Edgware end.

Where in Spain

The Mediterranean coast

Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Murcia and the Costa Blanca. The largest share of moves, and the ones where the car-park height bar is the recurring question.

Madrid and the interior

City apartment moves with the same lift and access questions Edgware throws up, reached through western France and the Basque border.

Andalusia and the south

Málaga, Marbella and the Costa del Sol — the furthest mainland destinations, and where shared loads most often make sense on cost.

The north and the Atlantic side

Galicia, Asturias and the Basque Country. Straightforward once across, and closer to the border than people expect.

Edgware to Spain — common questions

What paperwork does Spain want?

Your NIE or equivalent identification reference, proof of the Spanish address, evidence you are transferring residence rather than importing goods to sell, and a detailed inventory. We compile the declaration from the survey inventory and lodge it before the vehicle travels.

Do you go to the Balearics or the Canaries?

Mainland Spain by road is what we run. The islands add a sea leg and a different set of arrangements — ask and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right firm rather than taking the job and working it out later.

Is a shared load sensible?

On a route this long, often — sharing a vehicle across several consignments takes real cost out. The trade-off is date flexibility, because the schedule has to suit everything on board. We quote both.

Can things wait in Edgware first?

Yes. Containerised storage here, listed on the way in, and the load travels when the date is genuinely firm. Most Spain moves that use storage do it because completion slipped, not because anyone planned it.

What cannot come?

Anything flammable or pressurised, most plants, perishable food, and whatever Spain restricts. Fuel drained from garden machinery. Alcohol in quantity attracts duty — a few bottles in a box is not the concern, a collection is.

Moving to Spain?

Send both addresses and a rough inventory. If there is a lift or an underground car park involved, mention it — it changes the plan.
